Website Mission

Registered Maine Guide patch

The primary mission of this website is to provide knowledge of Maine, canoeing, whitewater canoeing, hiking, backpacking, open water fishing, ice fishing, primitive camping, and outdoor living skills to interested people, and if desired, connect folks with a Registered Maine Guide and/or Sporting Camp for the trip of their choice, at the time of their choice. There is no cost to a Registered Maine Guide for having a potential sport referred to them. The intent is to connect sports who want to take a canoeing, hiking, fishing, hunting, sea kayaking, or whitewater rafting trip in Maine with a Registered Maine Guide who wants work. (Registered Maine Guides… contact me and tell me about your business, your specialty skills, and your availability! Fill in the Registered Maine Guide Information Form or print out the form, fill it in, and send it to me via regular mail at Stoney's Guide Service, 30 Howe Road, Fairfield, Maine 04937).

A secondary mission of this website is to advance public awareness of the Junior Maine Guide Program and its place in the training of skilled, future Registered Maine Guides; the Junior Maine Woodsman, Maine Woodsman, and Junior Maine Guide programs are excellent stepping stones toward the later licensing of skilled Registered Maine Guides. More participation in these foundational programs will help keep the standard of the Registered Maine Guide at a high level. Through generous donations to campership programs that help youngsters go to Maine Youth Camps, these programs can be made more readily available to youths from Maine and beyond. If you would like to support a youth that is interested in one of the JMG, MW, or JMW programs, contact one of the Maine Youth Camps listed on this website that run a JMG, MW, or JMW program.

For more than 100 years, Registered Maine Guides have been highly regarded for their knowledge, skill, and experience in the Maine woods, waters, and mountains. The tradition of the Registered Maine Guide will carry on and this website will work to support that tradition. If you have ideas or recommendations on how this website can provide a better service, send me an e-mail or write to me at Stoney's Guide Service, 30 Howe Road, Fairfield, Maine 04937. This website will be kept simple and to the point; just like a simple hearty meal is meant to fill your belly after a long day of paddling.

In closing, I have always appreciated the message that Chuck Buck of Buck Knives included with every Buck Knife. He described that early on, the management at Buck Knives determined to make God the Senior Partner, relying on Him in times of trouble. With Chuck's excellent lead, I will work to do the same. "For God loved the world so much that He gave his only Son: so that anyone who believed in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life." - John 3:16. Don't hesitate to join us and make God your Senior Partner today.
